Authorized Canon dealer Photo4Less via eBay has the Canon EOS Rebel T3 for $224.99. This is a great price point for a brand new starter SLR.
This camera is three years old now, but still is a decent place to start, featuring a 12.2 megapixel sensor, DIGIC 4 processor, 9-point AF, and ISO 100-6400. It even shoots 1280×720 HD video. Compare with $399 from other authorized dealers when bundled with the 18-55 IS kit lens.
Mine lasted 20000 shots before serious issues occurred.
