Besides the focal range, whats the difference between this and the 24-105mm?
24-70 f/4 said to be a decent bit sharper than the original 24-105. I tried to confirm myself last year but I received a dud from BorrowLenses that was soft in both upper corners.
The 24-70 is sharper at both focal length extremes compared to the 24-105, i.e. at 24 and 70mm, but softer in the middle between 35 and 50mm. The 24-70 also gives you near macro functionality, up to 0.70x magnification, which is why I picked up this lens. I can keep my bag light by not having to carry a separate macro lens, especially when hiking.
Just get the new 24-105/4 L IS II.
