Canon has announced an updated version of the Speedlite EL-1 — it features an improved user interface with a new LCD panel, a menu system with simplified options and control layout, a new joystick controller, and a new active cooling system. It’s available for pre-order for $1349.00 at authorized dealers such as B&H and the Canon Store.

Accessory shoe is the same as original EL-1. Requires multi-accessory shoe adapter AD-1. Oh well, I was hoping for an adapter-less connection to R5MkII but I’ll stick with the OG EL-1. Why EL-5, the best flash currently available that is compatible with the new accessory shoe, is such a neutered offering (no charger, no dedicated bounce adapter, no color filter set) is beyond my comprehension. Some bean counter in Canon’s marketing dept. has covid brain or like in a typical Japanese corporation, an old fart with calcified brain who wields way too much power.
That’s simply nuts it doesn’t have the new shoe!
